Police officers were responding to an incident at an apartment during a mental-health evaluation.
According to officials, the individual involved pulled a knife on staff from the Capitol Region Mental Health Center.
At least one officer then fired their weapon.
The person was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
Officers and investigation
Two officers were also taken to hospital for unspecified reasons, though neither was shot.
The shooting is now under investigation by the Connecticut Office of the Inspector General, as required by state police-accountability law.
Detectives from Hartford Police Major Crimes and Internal Affairs, along with the State’s Attorney’s Office and multiple law-enforcement agencies, responded to the scene.
Current status
Streets around the area were temporarily closed while authorities processed evidence.
Officials say the case remains active and developing, and more details — including the identity of the deceased — have not yet been released.
