Alma “Ali” Mae Summers, 51, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away peacefully at Alton Memorial Hospital on the evening of February 17, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 7, 1974, in Alma, Colorado, Ali brought her adventurous spirit and boundless energy into every area of her life — from her professional pursuits to her role as a devoted wife and mother.

Ali’s professional career was a testament to her lifelong dedication to service and to upholding the rule of law. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies, followed by a Master of Social Work and a Juris Doctorate, she devoted her career to prosecuting federal crimes and advocating for vulnerable children and families. She joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois in 2012, where she served with integrity, compassion, and a deep dedication to justice. Her leadership as Chief of the Criminal Division and her work as an Assistant United States Attorney reflected her professional excellence and her steadfast commitment to the community.
Those who worked with Ali remember her not just as a skilled prosecutor, but as a mentor, colleague, and friend whose warmth and encouragement lifted others up. Her career was rooted in a passion for advocacy, fairness, and accountability — and she earned the respect of peers across the legal profession through her thoughtful approach and her determination to serve with purpose.

Ali also found joy in the everyday moments: cooking for others, listening to music and dancing, exploring nature, and sharing laughter with friends and loved ones. Her vibrant personality and generous heart enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Micah; her sons Andrew and Benjamin; her parents, Mary E. Tolliver and Dennis W. Tolliver; her sister and brother‑in‑law, Cyra C. and Robert Lohman; her in‑laws Kevan and Diane Summers; her sister‑in‑law and brother‑in‑law Rachel and Michael Wein; three nephews; extended family; colleagues; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and beloved uncles.
Visitation was held at Irwin Chapel in Glen Carbon, Illinois, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Dave Romoser, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested for the Madison County Child Advocacy Center or the Community Lifeline Family Resource Center in East St. Louis, honoring Ali’s legacy of service to children and families.
Ali’s life was one of purpose, passion, and profound impact. She dedicated herself to the pursuit of justice and the service of others, and her presence brought light, compassion, and strength to every room she entered. Though she is deeply missed, her legacy will endure in the hearts of her family, her community, and all who were uplifted by her compassion and leadership.
